CarryBabyAnimals: Carry, Pet & Protect Baby Mobs in Minecraft

CarryBabyAnimals lets you pick up, carry, pet, and safely set down baby animals in Minecraft. A cozy, multiplayer-safe add-on for Minecraft.

CarryBabyAnimals

There is a particular kind of Minecraft moment that sticks with you: finding a baby pig in a flower field and wishing you could just scoop it up and take it home. CarryBabyAnimals turns that wish into real gameplay. Built by Tyler and Jasmine as a father-daughter project, this mod lets you pick up, carry, pet, and gently set down baby animals, all while keeping them as genuine world entities rather than abstract inventory items.

What Makes CarryBabyAnimals Special

The core idea is refreshingly simple. A carried baby stays attached to the player on the server, which means the behavior is visible to everyone, multiplayer-safe, and even works for clients that do not have the mod installed. You are not stuffing a mob into a slot; you are actually holding it.

Core Highlights

  • Pick up one baby animal at a time by sneak-right-clicking it with empty hands.
  • Carry the baby while walking, sprinting, jumping, and swimming.
  • Set the baby down again with another sneak-right-click while your hands are empty.
  • Pet the carried baby with left-click for heart particles and cozy feedback.
  • Nursery Mode refuses dangerous set-downs near lava, fire, damaging blocks, cramped spaces, and unsafe drops.
  • Parent Reunion adds cosmetic hearts and a warm action-bar message when a safely set-down baby is returned near a matching adult.
  • Modded clients get improved visuals, including tucked placement for larger babies and sleepy carry poses for smaller ones.

Server owners can opt into compatible baby animal entity types from other mods using full entity IDs in the config. Vanilla clients can still join and use the server-side carry behavior through Minecraft's passenger fallback, which is a genuinely clever piece of design.

Supported Versions and Loaders

CarryBabyAnimals supports modern Minecraft releases across both major loaders. Releases are published for Minecraft 26.1.2, 26.2, and 26.3, with Fabric and NeoForge builds available depending on the version. All releases require Java 25 or newer, so check your runtime before you download CarryBabyAnimals. Fabric builds need Fabric API, and the API versions listed for each release are the versions it was built against, so use those or newer compatible releases for the same Minecraft version. Fabric Permissions API is only required for version 0.1.0 and became optional afterward.

If you would rather skip the manual file juggling, the foxygame.net launcher offers a one-click install path that handles CarryBabyAnimals alongside its wider add-on catalog, so loader and version compatibility are matched automatically before anything touches your game folder.

How to Install CarryBabyAnimals for Minecraft

Getting started is straightforward whether you run a server or just play solo.

  • Install CarryBabyAnimals on the server to enable the gameplay itself.
  • Install the mod on your client for the nicer held-in-arms rendering, first-person petting feedback, carried baby reactions, and sleepy visuals.
  • Fabric clients can use ModMenu, and NeoForge clients can use the built-in Mods screen, to edit visual settings in-game.
  • Players without the mod can still join a modded server and use the carry behavior, though they will see the baby through Minecraft's normal passenger rendering.

Remember that CarryBabyAnimals does not make another mod's custom entity compatible with vanilla clients by itself. If another animal mod requires matching client mods, that requirement still belongs to that mod and its server setup.

How to Use It

Empty both hands, then sneak-right-click a supported baby animal to pick it up. Left-click while carrying to pet the baby, and sneak-right-click again with empty hands to set it down. Pickup and set-down messages use the animal's custom name when it has one, so you might see "Carrying KittyKat" or "Set down baby Pig." Doors and trapdoors can still be used while carrying a baby animal, which keeps exploration feeling natural.

Nursery Mode and Parent Reunion

Nursery Mode is server-owned and vanilla-client compatible. It validates the planned set-down position before the baby is detached, refusing unsafe spots near lava, fire, damaging blocks, suffocating spaces, and dangerous drops. If the location is unsafe, the baby stays carried and you get a playful action-bar message. Parent Reunion, meanwhile, rewards you with heart particles and a short reunion message when a safely set-down baby is returned near a compatible adult of the same type.

Client Visuals and Configuration

The server owns the gameplay state while client visuals stay purely cosmetic. Tall babies such as horses, camels, llamas, pandas, and turtles use a safer tucked-side placement so first-person play stays readable. After a small carried baby has been observed for a while, sleepy visuals progress from a drowsy pose into a clearer asleep presentation. Settings live in config/carrybabyanimals-client.json, and the main server options file, config/carrybabyanimals.json, controls allowed animals, blocked animals, petting cooldowns, Nursery Mode checks, and Parent Reunion radius and cooldowns.

Supported Animals and Permissions

By default, the mod supports the normal passive babies that make sense to carry, including cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, goats, rabbits, cats, foxes, horses, donkeys, llamas, camels, pandas, turtles, and wolves. Modded entities are never allowed by default and must be explicitly listed in allowedAnimals. Tamed animals follow ownership rules, so you can carry your own tamed babies but not another player's unless the server explicitly permits it. Permission nodes such as carrybabyanimals.carry and carrybabyanimals.nursery.bypass give server operators fine-grained control.

Final Thoughts

CarryBabyAnimals is one of those mods that quietly improves the texture of everyday Minecraft life. It adds no grind and no power creep, just a gentle, well-engineered interaction that works in singleplayer and on busy servers alike. Whether you are a parent playing with a child or a builder who wants a baby panda following you home, this add-on earns its place in your load order.
