Broken World (Horror)

Most horror mods for Minecraft go straight for the jumpscare. Broken World (Horror) does something far more unsettling: it lets you believe you are safe, then quietly takes that belief away. You spawn in an ordinary survival world. You punch trees, craft a bed, watch the sun go down. Everything feels fine. Almost.

Then the world starts to break.

A Slow-Burn Descent Into Something Wrong

The premise of Broken World (Horror) is simple and cruel. Day one is normal survival, with just enough small oddities to make you double-check your surroundings. By day two, the game itself begins to malfunction on purpose. Oak logs render as diamond ore. Leaves look like cherry blossoms or gold blocks. First the trees glitch, then the terrain, then everything else.

Sound is the second layer of the breakdown. Familiar Minecraft audio starts to stutter, slow down, drop out, or play as something completely different. A zombie groan becomes a whisper. A cave ambience turns into footsteps that are not yours. You will find yourself turning your volume down, then turning it back up because silence is worse.

The Silhouette

Somewhere in all of this, a black figure appears. It stands on the horizon. It peeks out from behind a tree. It waits on the canopy above you. It never attacks at first. It only watches. Look directly at it and it vanishes, leaving you unsure whether it was ever there. Later it gets bolder: crawling through caves on all fours, hanging from your ceiling, pressing its face and hands against your window and tapping on the glass.

How the World Falls Apart

Broken World (Horror) escalates across multiple stages, and each one adds new ways to make your base feel less like a home:

  • Mobs lose their faces, and some animals begin behaving like players.
  • Holes open down to the bottom of the world while chunks of ground float in midair.
  • Torches go out, doors open by themselves, and footsteps follow you through the dark.
  • Someone joins your world and writes in chat, sometimes pretending to be one of your friends.
  • Your house becomes bigger on the inside than it should be.
  • While you are away, someone visits: a sign by your bed, a diary written in your name, furniture moved.
  • Your game "loses connection," and when you return, nothing is where you left it.

On the third night, the story reaches its finale. We will not spoil what happens, but be warned: by default the world is deleted at the very end. Play in a fresh world, or set deleteWorldAtEnd = false in the config if you want to keep your build.

Versions, Loaders, and Multiplayer

Broken World (Horror) for Minecraft is built for 1.20.1 and ships for both major loaders. The Fabric build needs Fabric Loader 0.15 or newer plus Fabric API. If you run Sodium, install Indium as well, otherwise the broken textures will not appear even though everything else works. The Forge build requires Forge 47 or higher. Multiplayer is fully supported across singleplayer, LAN, and dedicated servers, and everyone experiences the ending together. The mod must be installed on the server and on every client.

If you would rather skip the manual setup, the foxygame.net launcher handles the whole process with a single click, pulling Broken World (Horror) and its required dependencies straight from its add-on catalog. The launcher also tracks version compatibility and pushes auto-updates, so you never have to hunt down a matching Fabric API or Indium build by hand.

Config and Testing Commands

The file config/brokenworld-common.toml lets you tune how many days pass before the world breaks and how fast the stages advance. You can toggle the finale, world deletion, fake chat, the bigger house, jumpscares, world events, the fake disconnect, house visits, and broken sounds individually, and adjust how often the silhouette and random events appear.

For testing, cheats or operator status unlock a set of commands: /brokenworld info shows the current stage and time to the next one, /brokenworld stage jumps between stages 0 and 4, /brokenworld summon calls the silhouette, and /brokenworld pose lets you view its peek, crawl, hang, spider, window, scream, and jerky animations up close. Extra commands cover the screamer, crash, visit, faceless mode, and the finale itself.

How to Install Broken World (Horror)

To download Broken World (Horror), grab the correct jar for your loader from the mod's official page, then drop it into your mods folder alongside Fabric API or Forge. Launch the matching profile, create a brand new world, and resist the urge to build anything permanent until you know how the story ends. This is not a mod you play once and forget. It is one you play with the lights on.
