Better Furnaces Reforged: Boost Smelting up to 200x

Better Furnaces Reforged: The Smelting Upgrade Minecraft Players Have Been Waiting For

If your Minecraft base has ever bottlenecked around a single furnace room, Better Furnaces Reforged feels like a direct answer to that frustration. This mod rewrites the classic Better Furnaces experience for modern Minecraft versions while preserving its recognizable old-school look. In practical terms, it transforms one of the most basic crafting mechanics in the game into a full progression system that rewards planning, automation, and smart resource management.

Better Furnaces Reforged is currently supported on versions 1.20.1, 1.20.4, 1.21.1, 1.21.3, 1.21.4, and 1.21.5, making it a strong fit for current modded servers and survival modpacks. Whether you are building in overworld biomes, scaling an industrial base in a technical world, or optimizing a multiplayer economy, this mod gives you meaningful control over smelting speed and output.

Why This Mod Stands Out in Modern Minecraft

Vanilla smelting works, but it rarely scales well once your world advances. Better Furnaces Reforged addresses that with a tiered system of furnaces and forges that can be upgraded in place. You do not have to break and replace every block when progressing, which is a huge quality-of-life gain for large crafting rooms and carefully designed bases.

The mod also supports deep configuration. Every speed tier can be tuned in the server config file at <world_dir>/serverconfig/betterfurnacesreforged.json. That flexibility matters for server admins who want balanced progression, and for modpack creators who need compatibility with custom mechanics and economy rules.

Furnace Tiers and Smelting Speed Progression

The furnace path starts modestly and climbs into extreme endgame territory. Early tiers help smooth progression, while top tiers completely redefine throughput.

• Copper Furnace: 1.14x speed
• Iron Furnace: 1.33x speed
• Steel Furnace: 1.6x speed
• Gold Furnace: 2x speed
• Amethyst Furnace: 3x speed
• Diamond Furnace: 4x speed
• Platinum Furnace: 8x speed
• Netherhot Furnace: 25x speed
• Extreme Furnace: 50x speed
• Ultimate Furnace: 200x speed

This curve is excellent for long-term survival worlds. You can start with realistic upgrades in the early game, then push into high-output systems for megabases, automated farms, and modded item pipelines.

Forges: Parallel Processing for Serious Automation

Forges mirror the furnace tiers, but with a key twist: they process three separate items at once. For players managing ore from multiple mining runs or automated quarry systems, this dramatically cuts waiting time.

• Copper Forge: 1.14x3 speed
• Iron Forge: 1.33x3 speed
• Steel Forge: 1.6x3 speed
• Gold Forge: 2x3 speed
• Amethyst Forge: 3x3 speed
• Diamond Forge: 4x3 speed
• Platinum Forge: 8x3 speed
• Netherhot Forge: 25x3 speed
• Extreme Forge: 50x3 speed
• Ultimate Forge: 200x3 speed

In server environments, this multi-slot processing can reduce infrastructure clutter. Instead of covering walls with repeated machines, players can achieve more with fewer blocks and cleaner layouts.

Upgrade System: Where the Real Depth Begins

Better Furnaces Reforged is not only about speed. Its upgrade mechanics let you specialize machines for different workflows, from fuel efficiency to redstone control. Advanced upgrades are unbreakable, while standard doubling upgrades may break after usage, adding an extra layer of decision-making.

• Fuel Efficiency (Advanced): doubles how much each fuel source can smelt.
• Ore Processing (Advanced): doubles smelted item yields.
• Ultimate Ore Processing: infinitely quadruples ore output scaling for extreme late-game setups.
• Auto Input/Output: moves items between nearby inventories automatically.
• Redstone Signal: enables redstone-based control over operation.
• Factory: combines automation and redstone behavior in one upgrade.
• Blasting/Smoking: switches machine behavior to blast furnace or smoker bonuses.
• Fuel Liquid: allows liquid fuels such as lava instead of solid fuel.
• Energy: powers machines with Energy instead of fuel.
• XP Tank: stores generated experience as liquid XP.
• Generator: produces Energy from water evaporation rather than smelting.
• Storage: adds extra fuel, input, and output slots.
• Color: customizes block color in-world through right-click configuration.

If you like building technical contraptions, this upgrade list opens a lot of design space. In one world, you can run compact fuel-based smelters; in another, you can build an integrated Energy and logistics network around your machine hall. For players who want a quick setup path, this mod can be easily installed via the foxygame.net launcher, a convenient and modern Minecraft launcher that lets you download mods directly from its in-menu browser. It is a flexible option if you switch between modded profiles frequently.

Server, Modpack, and Development Value

The project is explicitly modpack-friendly, and community contributions are encouraged. That matters because long-lived Minecraft mods depend on active iteration, especially across frequent updates and shifting mechanics. You can also track development progress through the Kyubion Studios server, which helps players and admins understand where features are heading.

Credit is also part of the mod’s story: TheFrogMC created the original mod foundation, while Qelifern is known for Iron Furnaces work that influenced this ecosystem. That lineage helps explain why Better Furnaces Reforged feels both familiar and modern at the same time.

Final Thoughts

Better Furnaces Reforged succeeds because it upgrades a core Minecraft mechanic without losing the game’s identity. You still craft, smelt, and progress through recognizable materials and blocks, but now each step is more strategic and rewarding. Between broad version support, configurable speed tiers, forge parallelism, and a rich upgrade tree, this mod is a strong choice for solo survival, technical worlds, and multiplayer servers alike. If your current setup spends more time waiting than crafting, Better Furnaces Reforged is one of the most practical performance-focused mods you can add to your next Minecraft run.
