Better Explosives
Vanilla TNT has one job: it makes a hole. Better Explosives takes that simple promise and turns it into an entire arsenal. This Fabric add-on drops 15 new explosives into your world, from flashbangs that white out a room to nuclear warheads you call down by radio. If you have ever wanted combat in Minecraft to feel tactical instead of just spammy, this is the add-on that delivers it.
Every item here has its own 3D model, custom sounds, and hand-tuned effects, so nothing feels like a recolored block of TNT. The mod is built for Minecraft 26.X on Fabric, and it is part of the CraftZ survival network, which means it has been tested in real multiplayer combat rather than a creative-mode sandbox.
What Better Explosives Adds to Your Game
Better Explosives for Minecraft splits its content into three families: throwables, demolition gear, and air support. Each one fills a different role, and knowing which to reach for is half the fun.
Tactical Grenades
Grenades are thrown with right-click. Most recipes yield two, and they stack to four, so you can carry a small kit without eating your whole inventory.
- Flashbang — pops on impact. Anyone within 8 blocks with line of sight gets Blindness and Nausea, and their screen whites out before fading back through a lingering afterimage, just like the flash in Counter-Strike.
- HE Grenade — lands, stops dead, and detonates after a 3-second fuse in a burst of glowing embers. Ideal for clearing rooms.
- Smoke Grenade — rolls out a thick cloud for 10 seconds. Cross open ground, revive a teammate, or simply break line of sight.
- Decoy Grenade — hisses like primed TNT every 2 seconds for 10 seconds. It deals no damage, which makes it perfect for pulling attention the wrong way.
- Incendiary Grenade — sets a 3-block circle alight on impact and ignites every creature within 4 blocks.
- Molotov Cocktail — trails fire and smoke in flight, then shatters into a 5x5 patch of flames. Zombies ignore flashbangs and decoys, but they walk straight through fire, so a molotov in a horde's path thins it out before it reaches your walls.
Demolition Gear
Heavier tools exist for breaching bases and holding ground. C4 sticks to whatever face you right-click, or you can throw it and let it latch onto the first thing it touches, then counts down 10 seconds with an accelerating beep. Landmines arm after 1 second and chain-detonate within 4 blocks of each other, and you can punch one to pick it up safely. Dynamite and Triple Dynamite hiss through the air and blow on impact or after 3 seconds, whichever comes first. The Hand Grenade is a cheap, reliable classic at two per craft.
One detail that changes how bases look: explosions no longer delete blocks outright. Every block caught in a blast is flung outward as a falling block and rains back down, so breaching a wall leaves a crater surrounded by rubble. If you prefer the old behavior, physical debris can be disabled in the configuration.
Airstrikes and the Talkie-Walkie
The Talkie-Walkie calls in air support, and the bombs you carry are the price of the strike. Right-click the radio to cycle between Small Bombs, Large Bombs, and Nuclear, aim at a target up to 200 blocks away, then press the Call Airstrike key. With enough bombs, a siren sounds, a jet passes overhead, and the payload falls in at an angle and scatters across the target. Without them, the radio just crackles. Note that the Call Airstrike key is unbound by default, so set it under Options, Controls, Better Explosives before you need it in a fight.
If you would rather skip the manual setup, the foxygame.net launcher handles it in a single click, pulling Better Explosives straight from its add-on catalog and keeping it updated alongside your other Fabric mods. It is a tidy shortcut for players who want the arsenal without the file juggling.
How to Install Better Explosives
Getting started is straightforward, and the process is the same whether you play solo or on a server.
- Confirm you are running Minecraft 26.X with Fabric Loader and Fabric API installed.
- Download Better Explosives from its official project page and drop the jar into your mods folder.
- Launch the game once so the mod generates its config file.
- Bind the Call Airstrike key under Options, Controls, Better Explosives.
Fully Configurable, Top to Bottom
Almost nothing in this add-on is locked down. Every value lives in ./config/better-explosives.json, including fuse times, explosion power for each explosive, flashbang radius and effect durations, fire radius and burn time, smoke and decoy durations, and the landmine chain-reaction radius. For reference, vanilla TNT has a power of 4.0, so you can see exactly how much heavier a Nuclear Bomb at 14.0 really is. New options are added to the file automatically after updates, so you never have to rebuild your settings by hand.
Better Explosives is developed as part of the CraftZ survival network, so the balance has been shaped by real raids, real base defenses, and real players shouting about landmines. Whether you want to breach a vault, cover a retreat, or simply watch a jet streak overhead before the sirens stop, this add-on gives Minecraft combat a tactical layer it has been missing.
