Better Concretes changes that completely by turning all 16 vanilla colors into a full building palette of 64 unique blocks.

Four Distinct Styles for Every Color
Each of the 16 vanilla concrete colors gets four brand-new variants, giving you a total of 64 blocks to work with. The styles are designed to complement each other, so you can mix and match them within a single build without clashing.
Smooth Concrete with Connected Textures
The Smooth variant is the star of the show. It uses connected-texture (CTM) rendering on every face, which means when you place multiple blocks side-by-side, the seams between them disappear entirely. Build a large wall or floor, and it looks like a single, monolithic slab of polished stone. This is perfect for minimalist modern builds where clean lines are everything.
Polished, Chiseled, and Brick Variants
- Polished: Clean, symmetric slabs with a subtle highlight. Ideal for sharp, modern architecture and decorative trim.
- Chiseled: Carved panels with a central detail. These work brilliantly as focal points, pillars, or accent pieces.
- Brick: Detailed brick patterns with color-true mortar. Each of the 16 colors has a unique brick style, so your red brick won't look like your gray brick.
All 64 blocks are organized into a single Better Concretes creative tab, making them easy to find. They also use the common c:concretes tag, so other mods and datapacks can hook into them without needing to hardcode a mod ID.
The Chisel Tool and Workbench GUI
Getting the exact block you need is simple, thanks to a new iron tool called the Chisel. You can craft it on a stonecutter from a single iron ingot. Once you have it, you can open the dedicated Chisel workbench GUI.
The workflow is straightforward: drop any Better Concretes block into the input slot, pick one of the four variants on the right, and pull the output. The Chisel takes a small durability hit, but the block keeps everything else intact—its color, its tag membership, and even its inventory slot. This makes converting between variants a breeze, especially when you're in the middle of a large build.
JEI Integration and Recipe Viewing
If you use JEI (Just Enough Items), Better Concretes integrates fully. Every variant-to-variant conversion is indexed under a dedicated "Chiseling" category. This means you can see the entire conversion graph at a glance, without needing to guess or memorize recipes. The mod also includes a JEI category for the water transform mechanic, which is a nod to the original mod's signature feature.
When you download Better Concretes, you're getting a complete package. The mod is built for NeoForge 1.21.1 and requires Minecraft 1.21.1. Installation is simple: install NeoForge 21.1.193, then drop the JAR file into your mods folder. JEI is optional but highly recommended to unlock the full recipe viewer experience.
What's New in Version 2.0.0
This release is a full rewrite and port, not just a patch. The original "Better Concrete" mod for Forge 1.20.1 was a small quality-of-life tool that let concrete powder transform into solid concrete when dropped in water. That mod remains as it was. Better Concretes 2.0.0 is a completely different beast—a full content pack with hand-built pixel art at 16x16 resolution.
The mod features custom BakedModel rendering for the connected textures, a custom ChiselRecipe type with its own serializer, and 320 JSON chiseling recipes (every variant to every other variant, per color). It also includes full translations for English, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, and French.
One important note: the mod ID changed from betterconcrete to betterconcretes. This means the release is not save-compatible with the old mod. Worlds relying on the old blocks will not port automatically, so plan accordingly if you're upgrading.

Compatibility and Roadmap
Better Concretes for Minecraft plays well with others. It supports common tags like c:concretes and c:building_blocks, so other mods can target its blocks without a hard dependency. JEI integration is full, but the mod works fine without it—you just lose the visual recipe viewer.
There's no direct integration with Chipped or Rechiseled yet, as both mods lack a public chisel-recipe API in 1.21.1. Dedicated bridges may ship as separate add-ons in the future. Slabs and stairs are not included in this release, as they would multiply the block count to over 256, but they are on the backlog. Light-source variants (glowing concrete) are also being prototyped.
