Auto Critical Hit
Landing a critical hit in Minecraft normally means jumping at the exact right moment, keeping your attack cooldown full, and hoping the server agrees with your timing. Auto Critical Hit throws all of that out the window. Every full-strength hit becomes a critical hit while you keep both feet on the ground. No jumping, no timing windows, no awkward hop before every swing. You get 1.5x damage, the crit particles, and the crit sound on every single hit.
If you have ever lost a close fight because your jump landed a fraction too early, this mod was built for you. It is a client-side add-on, so nothing needs to be installed on the server, and it works across a wide range of Minecraft versions and loaders.
What Auto Critical Hit Actually Does
The core promise is simple: full-strength attacks crit automatically. Standing still, walking, strafing, or sprinting, the result is the same. Vanilla Minecraft never grants a critical hit while you are sprinting, and that is exactly where this mod shines. It handles the crit for that one hit and your sprint continues right after, so you keep your momentum and your movement.
By default the mod is switched on when the game starts. Press J to toggle it, and you can rebind that key under Controls, then Toggle Auto Crit. A small "Auto Crit ON / OFF" message appears above your hotbar so you always know the current state.
Key Features at a Glance
- Crits without jumping, whether you are standing, walking, or strafing
- Works while sprinting, something vanilla refuses to allow
- On by default, toggled with J and fully rebindable
- Client-side only, with nothing to install on the server
- Configurable through config/autocrit.json, re-read every time you press J
Supported Versions and Loaders
Compatibility is one of the strongest points here. The mod ships in several builds, so you pick the file that matches your setup:
- Minecraft 26.1 to 26.3 on Fabric or Quilt, with Fabric API required
- Minecraft 1.21.8 to 1.21.11 on Fabric or Quilt, with Fabric API required
- Minecraft 1.21.8 to 26.3 on Forge
- Minecraft 1.21.8 to 26.3 on NeoForge
- Minecraft 1.8.9 on Forge or Legacy Fabric
That covers modern versions, the long-lived 1.21.x branch, and even the classic 1.8.9 PvP scene. Every file was tested in a real client connected to a vanilla server of the same version, across 38 version and loader combinations, checking criticals while standing, walking, and sprinting, plus verifying that no movement warnings or kicks appeared.
How to Install Auto Critical Hit
Installation is about as painless as modding gets. If you already run Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt, or Legacy Fabric, you are two steps away from critting every hit.
- Download Auto Critical Hit for your exact Minecraft version and loader.
- Grab Fabric API too if you are on Fabric or Quilt, since those builds depend on it.
- Drop the jar file into your .minecraft/mods/ folder.
- Launch the game and press J to confirm the toggle message appears.
If you would rather skip the manual file hunting, the foxygame.net launcher bundles Auto Critical Hit in its add-on catalog and handles the matching version automatically, so a single click installs the right build alongside its dependencies. That removes the guesswork of picking between the Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge files.
Settings in config/autocrit.json
Fine-tuning lives in a small JSON file. The mod re-reads it every time you press J, so you can edit values and see the effect without restarting.
- enabledOnStartup (default true): whether Auto Crit is active when the game launches.
- stopSprintForCrit (default true, 1.21.8+ only): tells the server you stopped sprinting for that one hit so it can crit. You lose the sprint knockback bonus on that hit. Set it to false and you get no crits while sprinting.
- playersOnly (default false): restrict critical hits to player targets only.
- showToggleMessage (default true): display the ON/OFF message above the hotbar.
How the Trick Works Under the Hood
A vanilla server grants a critical hit when, at the moment your attack arrives, you are airborne with a fall distance above zero, not sprinting, not climbing, not in water, and not riding. In 1.9 and later the attack also has to be fully charged.
Right before each attack, Auto Critical Hit sends a single tiny movement packet that places you 0.000001 blocks lower and in the air. The server registers a microscopic fall, so the hit that follows counts as critical. The offset is far below anything the server bothers to correct, and your next normal movement packet restores everything. Hits that could never crit anyway, such as uncharged attacks, water, ladders, riding, or flying, are left untouched, as are hits that already crit because you are falling.
Version 26.3 deserves a special mention. Servers on that version kick clients that send more than one position packet per tick, which is precisely what older "packet critical" mods do. Auto Critical Hit instead replaces that tick's own movement packet with its single tiny one, so you stay connected.
A Fair Warning
On multiplayer servers, Auto Critical Hit is a cheat. Servers with anti-cheat systems can detect the behavior and may ban your account. Use it only where it is explicitly allowed, such as private worlds, your own server, or communities that permit it. On singleplayer it is simply a convenience that removes a tedious timing mechanic.
For players who want consistent damage without mastering jump timing, Auto Critical Hit delivers exactly that: a clean, configurable, client-side solution that turns every full-strength swing into a critical strike.
