Explore akkamaddi's Arsenic and Lace for Minecraft, an add-on for Simple Ores that adds arsenic, Tenebrium, and the Necrotic Furnace.

akkamaddi's Arsenic and Lace

If you have ever looked at a chest full of rotten flesh and wished it could become something more than a wolf snack, akkamaddi's Arsenic and Lace is the mod you have been waiting for. This add-on for Simple Ores brings a grim, gothic corner of alchemy to your world, transforming undead leftovers into rare metals, strange alloys, and macabre burial shrouds. Originally written by akkamaddi for 1.7.10, the mod was abandoned before being revived and maintained for modern versions. The port targets Minecraft 1.16.5 and later, with support continuing through 1.18.1 and beyond, and it runs on the Forge loader.

What Does This Mod Add?

At its core, akkamaddi's Arsenic and Lace is a materials and metallurgy mod. It introduces three new metals and one glassy endgame material, each with its own tools, armor, and quirks. The centerpiece is arsenic, a brittle metal that cannot be used for armor but excels at enchantability. From there, the crafting tree branches into arsenide bronze and arsenide gold, and finally into Tenebrium, a dark, glassy substance that rivals diamond in strength.

The Metals and Their Uses

  • Arsenic: Comparable to wood tools with higher durability and strong enchantability. Repaired with arsenic ingots. No armor.
  • Arsenide Bronze: Alloyed from arsenic and copper. Comparable to bronze tools, slightly more durable and enchantable, though not quite as sharp. Full tools and armor.
  • Arsenide Gold: Alloyed from arsenic and gold. Comparable to gold with lower enchantability but higher durability. Full tools and armor.
  • Tenebrium: Made by alloying arsenide gold with obsidian blocks. Sits between diamond and onyx in most stats, but its durability is exceptionally high. Excellent for long-lasting gear.

The Necrotic Furnace and Arsenic Production

Arsenic has no traditional ore in older versions, and is derived entirely from the Fusion Furnace. As of Minecraft 1.18.1, however, a rare arsenic ore was added to world generation, along with the darkly poisonous Necrotic Furnace. This furnace runs on necromantic energy. Rotten flesh and bones smelt eight items each, bone meal smelts one, bone blocks smelt eighty, and a single Old Lace Shroud can fuel sixty-four smelts. Undead mob heads work as fuel too. Every smelted item has a 25% chance, configurable, of producing Toxic Soot in the lower output slot. Combine soot into a Toxic Lump, smelt that lump, and you get an arsenic nugget. This gives players with massive zombie farms a slow, steady trickle of arsenic for their alloys.

There is a catch, of course. Cooking meat in the Necrotic Furnace turns it into rotten meat, and cooking potatoes turns them into poisonous potatoes. If that feels too exploitable for your modpack, the feature can be disabled in the config file. The mod's own documentation jokes that the roasted almond flavor is great for weight loss, since your fingers and toes may fall off.

Old Lace Shrouds and Tenebrium

Burial shrouds are not just fuel. Arsenic sometimes preserves the Old Lace Shroud in which the dead were originally interred, tying the mod's theme together. These shrouds serve as a high-value fuel source, and they fit the eerie aesthetic that makes this add-on stand out from typical ore mods. Meanwhile, Tenebrium remains the crown jewel for players who want gear that lasts through long expeditions without constant repairs.

How to Install

Learning how to install akkamaddi's Arsenic and Lace is straightforward. First, confirm you are running a supported Minecraft version, such as 1.16.5, 1.18.1, or a later release, with the matching Forge loader installed. Next, install Simple Ores, since this mod is an add-on and will not function without it. Then place the mod file into your mods folder and launch the game. If you prefer a simpler route, the foxygame.net launcher handles the whole process with one-click install, pulling akkamaddi's Arsenic and Lace directly from its curated add-on catalog and keeping it updated automatically.
