AE Quality of Life
If you have ever built a large autocrafting setup in Applied Energistics 2, you know the pain: every new chain means sitting at a Pattern Encoding Terminal, hand-writing patterns one by one, double-checking ingredient trees, and hoping you did not miss a step. AE Quality of Life is an add-on that removes almost all of that busywork. It adds machines that write those patterns for you and place them exactly where they belong, all inside your ME network.
What AE Quality of Life Does for Minecraft
At its core, this mod answers a simple question: why encode by hand what a machine can encode for you? You tell it what you want to autocraft, and it works out the rest. The add-on is built specifically for Applied Energistics 2, so it slots into existing networks rather than replacing them. Applied Energistics 2 is a separate mod by AlgorithmX2 et al. and is not bundled, so make sure it is installed alongside this add-on.
The Pattern Planner
The Pattern Planner is the centerpiece. Drop the item you want to autocraft into the target slot, and the planner calculates the entire ingredient tree by itself. It then encodes a pattern for every step your network cannot craft yet. It reads every kind of recipe: crafting, smithing, stonecutting, AE2 Inscriber and Charger recipes, AE2 transform recipes, and potion brewing.
Only missing patterns get made. Nodes that already have a pattern in the network, or in the planner's own output, are skipped, and raw materials never need one. You get a live preview of every pattern still to be made, with counters for the blank patterns and processors required. You can cycle between alternative recipes for an item and choose which interchangeable ingredient, such as an ingot from another mod, goes into each pattern. Substitutions and fluid substitutions work just like the Pattern Encoding Terminal. Up to 4 Acceleration Cards speed it up at the cost of more power, and Auto Export pushes finished patterns straight into adjacent inventories, so a Pattern Provider touching it fills itself. Pipes, hoppers, and Export Buses all work. Progress is saved with the block, so you can leave a big job and resume later.
Every pattern costs 1 Blank Pattern plus as many Pattern Planner Processors as its depth in the ingredient tree.
The Advanced Pattern Planner
The upgraded version does the same job, but the settings live on each pattern panel instead of being global. That means you can set substitutions and fluid substitutions individually for every pattern it writes, which is invaluable when a single job mixes recipes with different acceptable ingredients.
The Pattern Organizer
Put an encoded pattern in its slot and the organizer delivers it for you, spending one Pattern Organizer Processor per pattern. Crafting patterns go to the Pattern Provider next to Molecular Assemblers that has the most free pattern slots, which balances your providers automatically. Any other pattern is stored in the network storage, following storage priorities. A pattern that already exists in the network is never sent twice.
Processors and Recipes
Both processors are pressed in an Inscriber. The Pattern Planner Processor combines a Calculation, Engineering, and Logic Processor. The Pattern Organizer Processor combines a Calculation Processor, Fluix Dust, and a Logic Processor.
- Pattern Planner: Pattern Encoding Terminal, 2 Sky Dust, 2 Charged Certus Quartz Crystal, 256k Cell Component, and the three processors
- Advanced Pattern Planner: 8 Pattern Planners around a Singularity
- Pattern Organizer: 2 Sky Dust, Fluix Glass Cable, 2 Fluix Crystal, Fluix Pearl, and the three processors
All recipes can be browsed in JEI or in the in-game guide.
Supported Versions and How to Install
AE Quality of Life targets Minecraft 26.1.2 on NeoForge 26.1.2.109 or newer, and requires Applied Energistics 2 26.1.x. If you are running a different AE2 build, check compatibility before adding it to a world.
To install, drop the mod jar into your mods folder alongside NeoForge and AE2, then launch the game. If you would rather skip manual file management, the foxygame.net launcher handles AE Quality of Life through its built-in add-on catalog, so you can add it to a compatible profile in a single click. Once in-game, every block and item has a page in the AE2 in-game guide, available in English and Brazilian Portuguese, and Jade and other tooltip mods that support AE2's tooltip API show each machine's status. JEI is optional but lets you drag items directly into the target slot.
Final Thoughts
AE Quality of Life does not reinvent Applied Energistics 2; it smooths out the most tedious part of it. If your ME network has grown past a handful of patterns, the Pattern Planner alone will save you hours, and the Pattern Organizer keeps your providers tidy without micromanagement. It is a focused, well-integrated add-on that respects the mod it extends, and for anyone who automates seriously, it earns its place in the pack.
