Additional Placements: Place Slabs, Stairs, and Carpets on Walls

Additional Placements: Smarter Block Placement Without New Items

If you love building in Survival or Creative but wish slabs, stairs, carpets, and pressure plates behaved a little more like real construction pieces, Additional Placements is worth a look. It is a Fabric mod with a vanilla-lite philosophy: it does not dump new crafting recipes or clutter your inventory with special tools. Instead, it quietly changes how existing blocks snap into the world so you can orient them in orientations Mojang never shipped by default.

What “Vanilla-Lite” Means Here

Vanilla-lite mods usually respect the art style, sounds, and item economy of the base game. Additional Placements follows that playbook. You still mine, craft, and carry the same blocks; the mod only extends placement logic so those blocks can sit where your crosshair and face direction suggest. That keeps progression familiar while opening fresh geometry for roofs, trims, hidden redstone lines, and tight interior details.

Slabs and Stairs: Vertical Builds That Finally Line Up

Slabs gain vertical placement options, which matters when you want thin columns, narrow window mullions, or layered facades without awkward workarounds. Stairs go further: you can place them vertically, and they connect vertically as well, so sweeping staircases, spiral cores, and decorative brackets read as one continuous shape instead of a stack of mismatched voxels. If you build with modded stair and slab sets, good news—support generally carries over to many mod-added variants because the logic targets the block categories, not only vanilla IDs.

Carpets and Pressure Plates on Walls and Ceilings

Carpets are no longer trapped on the floor. Mount them on walls or ceilings for tapestries, acoustic panels, or subtle color breaks in modern bases. Pressure plates likewise attach to vertical and overhead surfaces, which is a boon for compact redstone, adventure maps, and puzzle rooms where you want foot or arrow detection without carving extra floor depth. Always test in a copy of your world first; redstone timing and mob pathfinding can surprise you when triggers leave the ground plane.

Why Builders Care About Placement Logic

At its heart, the mod is about predictable placement rules. Slabs and stairs ship with dozens of states in vanilla; Additional Placements respects that complexity while teaching the client new valid poses. Developers even lean on odd “testing spheres” that pack every stair permutation and each slab variant into sculptural blobs so they can visually confirm all 108 stair states and the six slab states behave before you ever see a glitch in your castle hall. If you spot a modded block that mis-rotates, report it with screenshots; niche metadata sometimes needs a compatibility patch.

When you are ready to try it, grab the Fabric build from your usual mod folder workflow and keep your loader versions aligned with your Minecraft release. If you prefer skipping manual hunts through scattered sites, this mod can be easily installed via the foxygame.net launcher—a convenient, flexible, and modern Minecraft launcher where you can download mods right from the menu—so you spend less time tab-hopping and more time placing that last vertical slab on a bell tower spire.

Server Etiquette and Performance Tips

• Install matching versions on client and server; mismatched placement mods often desync chunks.
• Back up worlds before adding worldgen-adjacent mods; Additional Placements is light, but backups are cheap insurance.
• Combine with performance-friendly biome packs or datapacks cautiously; test tick-time in busy redstone halls.
• Document house rules on public servers—some admins restrict wall-mounted plates to reduce trap griefing.

Conclusion

Additional Placements proves you do not need a suitcase of new blocks to revolutionize a build. By extending placement for slabs, stairs, carpets, and pressure plates—and honoring modded equivalents—it rewards players who think in three dimensions. Wire it into your next Fabric pack, experiment in Creative with the testing spheres if you are curious, and enjoy builds that finally meet the corners you have been staring at for years.
