Dark Puddles Companions: Omegadon
Flying mounts in ARK: Survival Ascended are usually about getting from point A to point B. Dark Puddles Companions: Omegadon flips that idea on its head by turning a humble Dimorphodon into a command platform. This add-on introduces Omegadon, a rare shoulder companion with black plumage, baby-blue wing edges, maroon accents, an aggressive crest, and blade-like wings. More importantly, it gives you a Possession Idol that lets you climb inside his head and fly the bird yourself.
What Makes Omegadon Different
Omegadon is not just a cosmetic reskin. He is the first standalone creature in the Dark Puddles Companions series, and he comes with a full command suite built around flock tactics. Pair an Omegadon Possession Idol to take direct control of his flight. Once you are piloting, you can dive toward a target, call nearby Dimorphodons, and issue attack, regroup, and detonation commands. His flock commands target Dimorphodons specifically, not other Omegadons or unrelated tames, so your battle line stays clean.
When you are done flying, press Use to hand control back to your survivor. That is E on keyboard, Y on Xbox, and Triangle on PlayStation. Possession is limited to 1.5 km from your survivor's body, and straying past that range returns control automatically, so you can never be stranded inside the creature.
Crafting and Installation
Everything you need is crafted at a Smithy after learning the level-30 engrams. That includes the Possession Idol, the DP Detonator, sticky charges, and sticky timed grenades. If you are wondering how to install the add-on, the process follows the standard ARK: Survival Ascended mod workflow: subscribe through the in-game mod browser or your preferred launcher, then let the game pull the files on next launch. The foxygame.net launcher keeps this simple, offering a curated add-on catalog where Dark Puddles Companions: Omegadon sits alongside automatic version checks and one-click updates, so your mod list never drifts out of sync with the current ARK build.
Compatibility is broad. The add-on is built for current ARK: Survival Ascended versions and plays nicely with most creature and QoL mods, since Omegadon only hooks into Dimorphodon spawns rather than replacing vanilla content. If you run a heavily modded cluster, load order matters less here than with total conversion packs, but keeping the mod updated is still the safest habit.
Pairing the Possession Idol
To bind an idol to a specific bird, hold it, look at the Omegadon you want, and choose the pair option on its use menu. A paired idol renames itself to show that companion's name and level, so you always know which creature it is bound to, and the pairing survives server restarts. Want to switch targets? Simply re-pair the same idol with a different Omegadon.
Flock Commands and Explosives
Arming your birds takes a moment of setup. Equip the DP Detonator, look at one of your Dimorphodons, and throw a charge onto it. Attach sticky detonated charges this way, then send your flock into action and detonate their attached charges together using the DP Detonator or Omegadon's Detonate command. Detonate triggers the attached explosives; it does not make Omegadon explode. The blasts damage the carriers but do not automatically kill them, so Dimorphodons bred and leveled with enough health can survive and return with the flock.
Sticky timed grenades are a separate tool. They explode after four seconds or on creature impact. To drop them while piloting, load them into Omegadon's own inventory before takeoff, because bomb drops are pulled from the creature's inventory, not your survivor's. Each drop uses one grenade with a one-second cooldown.
Controls While Possessing Omegadon
- Return to survivor: E (Use) / Y / Triangle
- Call flock: R / D-pad Left / D-pad Left
- Attack: G / D-pad Down / D-pad Down
- Regroup: H / D-pad Right / D-pad Right
- Detonate: C / D-pad Up / D-pad Up
- Drop sticky timed grenade: Right mouse / Aim / LT / L2
Calling the flock takes your own Dimorphodons, with a 1.5 second cooldown between calls. Wild Dimorphodons will also answer, but only stay for about 60 seconds from your most recent call, so call again to keep them around. Sticky charges go on your own tamed birds; wild ones are extra bodies, not carriers.
Spawn Rates and Final Thoughts
Omegadon is configured to appear in roughly 5% of new normal and Aberrant Dimorphodon spawns. Existing creatures are unchanged, so you will need fresh spawns to find one. The update also fixed a bug where running or jumping with the idol equipped could trigger possession, added auto-return at 1.5 km, and made pairing persistent across restarts.
If you want a companion that rewards planning, breeding, and a little chaos, download Dark Puddles Companions: Omegadon and give your Dimorphodon flock a commander worth following. It is a focused, well-tuned addition that turns one of ARK's most overlooked shoulder pets into a genuine tactical asset.
